Maintain a Healthy Posture With These 7 Tips

Over 31 million Americans suffer from back pain every day. It is one of the most common reasons people visit chiropractors, along with chronic pain and headaches. Back pain commonly occurs when you maintain a bad posture for a long time. Bad posture causes a lot of pressure to fall unevenly on the spine, weakening the tissues and muscles in your lower back.

Here are seven tips that can help you achieve a healthy posture.

Sitting Position

Most of us spend much time sitting during the day, from working to the house. You will rarely pay much attention to your sitting position. It would be best to assess your sitting position every time you do it. Your head should be upright; it would also be good if you did not roll your shoulders forward. This position will ensure your bones are in alignment and that your organs function properly.

Straightening Up

Another way to maintain a healthy posture is standing up straight when walking. You can do this by holding your head high, ears over your shoulders, and knees well straightened. It would be best to slightly arch your back as it naturally looks. Standing up like this will not only feel better but also look more confident.

Sit Up Straight on Your Desk

It is tempting to slouch when you are working on your desk. However, this is detrimental to your back health. Instead, practice sitting way back in your chair so your back lines up with the back support. It is an easy hack to ensure that your back is always straight. You will find that you will adopt a healthy posture quickly and maintain it even when you stand.

Be Conscious When Using Your Phone

When people use their phones, they tend to bend unnaturally at the neck. It can cause significant damage and pressure to the back from the neck. This position is commonly called the “text neck.” It would be best to practice using your phone by lifting it higher so that it is almost in line with your eyes. It will feel more comfortable after a while.

Sleeping Right

Did you know that there is a sleeping position that is good for your posture? Sleeping is how our bodies recharge after a long day at work or playing with the kids. First, you will need a firm mattress so your back does not curve unnaturally. If you sleep on your side, ensure that you curve your knees inwards to reduce pressure. Also, ensure you use a pillow to raise your head so you do not strain your neck.

Exercise

Regular exercise and variations of exercise like yoga are not only good for your core muscles but also posture. Much weight in the stomach can put a lot of pressure on the back, so maintaining your weight will help your back. It would be best to have a workout plan that involves strengthening the back.

Eat a Nutrient-Rich Diet

Another way to have a healthy posture is to eat a nutrient-rich diet. Your spine needs to be well nourished for it to work correctly. Including foods rich in protein, calcium, and other nutrients would be best.
